Artemis from Álfhólar

Artemis from Álfhólar, our first prize mare, is bred by us and born in 2001. It all started when Valdi borrowed a mare from his cousin Sara at Álfhólar breeding farm, to be bred with a stallion of his choice. The mare is called Urður from Álfhólar, a daughter of Ögri from Hvítárholti and thereby a half sister to such known Álfhóla horses as Heikir, Zorro and Þyrnirós. Valdimar chose to breed Urður with Pegasus from Skyggni, a beautiful and talented four gated stallion, and it turned out to be extremely convenient as he was servicing mares at Álfhólar farm that summer.
And then Artemis was born, and to our utmost joy she was a mare, beautifully colored and very active. But for some reason she wasn’t in the limelight as a foal as we also got a foal from Glampi from Vatnsleysa that Valdi had bought that winter. Glampi was very popular at that time and the little Glampi son took allot of the attention. It also didn’t help that Artemis’s mother was extremely shy and didn’t allow a anyone to come closer than about 500 m, so if you were going to catch a glimpse of the pretty bay foal you really needed to take a pair of very powerful binoculars if you were going to have a chance of getting a glimpse of her.
In training Artemis was exceptional, and when Valdi started tolt training she was completely stuck in trot so it wasn’t until was steel on steel that she took her first tolt steps. After that it seemed as the flood gates opened and she went to the exact opposite pole and got quite pacy, and for a minute it didn’t look good but it took all in all about three weeks and that was it. From then on she only got better and better and exceeded our wildest dreams. When her training was well on its way, we got Sara to take over, as we knew she was in perfect hands. The training went extremely well and we decided to register her to a breeding show that spring, with only a couple of months training. She got a very good score, 8 on the line for riding abilities except for willingness she got 8,5 and, being a 4 gated horse, 5 for pace. After this Valdi decided to try his luck on the competition track with her, and it went pretty well, for example they became together Suðurlandschampions in 4.1, and they came second at the Reykjarvíkurmeistaramót.
The next year we got Valdi's brother in law to take over her training. At that time we didn't know what kind of trainer he was, but he had been doing very good things with mares from Sara. He gave it all he had and reaped as he had sown and rode her into firs prize with 9 for both tolt and willingness.

In the summer of 2009 she was bred to Gaumur from Auðsholtshjáleiga, but she apparently didn't see eye to eye with us on that and didn't have a foal

In the summer of 2010 she was bred to Sær from Bakkakot.
For fun we have put the offspring potential based on World fengur prediction.
In the summer of 2011 she gave birth to a lovely red dun stallion, Askur, who we are very excited over.

In the summer of 2011 we decided to choose a very interesting horse from home, Þrumufleygur from Álfhólar, but we have very high hopes for this combination, as it combines very strong Álfhóla blood with some influence from Orri, Hrafn and Oddur.
In the summer of 2012 Artemis gave birth to a bay mare with two stars, and we have named her Aþena frá Álfhólum. This is the first mare Artemis has given us and we are very excited over her future.
In the summer of 2012 we chose another interesting young stallion, called Sonur from Kálfhóli, a son of Sær from Bakkakoti. He comes highly recomended from his trainer.
