Valdi had heard about a safari park here in Denmark from a work colleague, so we loaded the car and put the dogs in the trunk and went for a look. It's one of the biggest safari park in Scandinavia and containes animals from most continents. It is quite a weird feeling driving around surrounded by rhinos, tigers and wolves.
Then Valdi went to Iceland for the Landsmót that was held in Reykjavík. I had one more exam to finish and didn't get to see the whole competition, only the last (and most fun) days. Landsmót in Reykjavík has another fun meaning for us as it was there in 2000 where our relationship started ;-)
This competition was quite frankly amazing, the area was perfect and the horses were breathtaking. The weather surprisingly showed only it's best face on all but the last day, and the man who came from the middle eastern desert got a sunburn on the very first day. Álfhólar was quite a prominent name at this competition and their breeding group lost to Blesastaðir farm in the dual for the best breeding group of the competition (well, one does also have connection Blesastaðir as well so one can't be sad about their results). With the competition horses it was quite amusing listening to the parentage of the competition horses being read aloud in the speaker system as it was very obvious what stallions were setting their mark on the horses end the biggest influences were coming from Rökkvi frá Hárlaugsstöðum and Sær frá Bakkakoti
That amongst other things influenced this years descision about what stallion to use, but we got the chance to use a 4 year old unknown stallion that get's it's trainers best recomendations. He actually managed to wow us so much that the descicion was made to not only use him for Artemis, but also for my mothers mare Rispa. The horse is called Sonur frá Kálfhóli 2, son of Sær and a sister of the well known A-class competition horse Þytur frá Kálfhóli 2.
But Artemis needs to have her foal first before we can take her to another stallion, but she gave birth a few days before Valdi went to Iceland. It is a good looking bay mare with two stars, a daughter of Þrumufleygur. Valdi "merarkóngur" was very happy to get his first mare from Artemis, but she is called Aþena frá Álfhólum.
