Sólarorka from Álfhólar
Sólarorka, or Orka (means energy) like we usually call her, is from Sóldögg from Álfhólar. Sóldögg belongs to Valdimars cousin Sara. She is a good four gated mare, did well on the breeding evaluation track and on the competition track with Sara. The father of Sóldögg is Tígur from Álfhólar, but his mother, Vaka, has now a strong line at Álfhólar as over half the Álfhóla horses can trace their lineage back to her.
Sólarorkas father is the very talented Kraftur from Efri-Þverá, son of Kolfinnur from Kjarnholt. We decided to use Kraftur after haven seen him win the 4 year old stallion category at Landsmót in Vindheimamelar.
Orka has an extreemely sweet temperament and she seems to get this temperament from Sóldögg because other of her offspring have a similar temperament, catching them in the field is no problem and the are extremely cuddly. When Orka was 3 years old she was taken into the stables for the first time and got a saddle for the first time she behaved like a fully trained mare.
After her first foal disapeared the descicion was made to start her training at Álfhólar. She started well and is ready to begin tolt training. Valdi took the opportunity the last time he was in Iceland and tried her for the first proper riding session and she raced around trotting with him like she had never done anything else. Now we are thinking about breeding shows next spring if everything goes as planned.
